Matt joined RHCDA in 2007 as a historic preservation specialist. Recently created as a new position at RHCDA, among Matt's many responsibilities are developing historic district and single site nominations to the National Register, historic tax credit assistance on redevelopment projects, consultation with neighborhood groups and developers, public education and outreach on preservation issues. Matt has over 15 years of professional experience in museum installations and collection management, art & artifact conservation and restoration, research and interpretation, building and neighborhood development history, cultural training, and public education. He has provided specialized services to Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Missouri Historical Society, and the Smithsonian Institution. Matt was a research associate at Landmarks Association of St. Louis and most recently was Senior Architectural Historian at SCI Engineering, responsible for all historic preservation projects. Matt has provided cultural resource assessments, documentation, surveys, and listings for over 7,500 buildings, structures, and sites in Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and other states. Matt provides expertise in background historical research and writing, public education, cultural resource investigations, National Register of Historic Places nominations, Historic Tax Credits, architectural single site and district surveys, Section 106 (and Public Act 86-707 in State of Illinois), Certified Local Government consultation, HABS/HAER documentation, and FCC telecommunications cultural resource assessments. Born and raised in South St. Louis City and recently relocated to Kirkwood, Matt received his undergraduate degree from Webster University with a multiple emphasis in Painting/Sculpture and Comparative Religion & the Arts. In 2003 he received his Master of Art Degree in Historic Preservation from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. Matt continues his education in architectural history, building technology, history, and cultural studies. Matt is certified under Federal 36CFR61 professional qualifications for both a historian and an architectural historian and maintains that status in over 20 states. Recently appointed to the City of Kirkwood Landmark's Commission, Matt also maintains status as an Associate in the American Institute of Architects. He is an active member of the Society of Architectural Historians and Missouri Preservation.
