New Training Class Coming March 26th!

March 6, 2008

Are you a staff or board member of a Community-Based Development Organization with a neighborhood redevelopment mission?

Well if you answered yes, and if you are located in eastern Missouri or Metro East, make plans now to attend RHCDA's second group training course for 2008 titled Environmental Issues in Older Neighborhoods. This class will be held on Wednesday, March 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Telecommunity Room at the Southwestern Bell Library on the campus of Harris State Stowe University.

Through the use of mapping, graphics, photo essays, presentations and panel discussions, class attendees will learn how to identify potential environmental hazards, their impact on development costs, developers' primary environmental liabilities, and their responsibility to address the discovery and mitigation of environmental hazards. The class will offer cost-effective options for their identification and mitigation.

The class will focus on such environmental impact issues as lead and asbestos hazards, demolition, noise, drainage/sewers, aging infrastructure and utility systems along with subsurface concerns such as buried rubble, trees and more.

Attendees will also come away with a better understanding of how to assess potential development sites and their potential environmental risks, and will improve their ability to reuse Brownfield sites while protecting neighborhood residents, promoting environmentally safe development and managing costs.

We are excited and proud to announce that third party real estate development and environmental assessment professionals will contribute their expertise to this class by serving as presenters and panelists.

To attend this important group training class you must RSVP no later than noon on March 21st by contacting Brian Hurd, Technical Assistance Project Manager, at (314) 333-7012 or by email at brian@rhcda.com. Space for this class is limited.

RHCDA's group training on nonprofit management and housing development topics for community-based development organizations is part of our CDC Capacity Building and Collaborative Grant Program. The training series is made possible with support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the St. Louis County Office of Community Development and from private foundations and corporations.
