RHCDA makes $120,000 in Grant awards to three local CDC's

March 1, 2008

RHCDA is pleased to announce its 2008 Collaborative Grant Awards. This year's recipients are Old North St. Louis Restoration Group, DeSales Community Housing Corporation, and Emerson Park Development Corporation. RHCDA will provide a total of $120,000 in operating support to these three Community Development Corporations (CDC's) in 2008.

RHCDA's Collaborative Grant Program provides financial support coupled with capacity building technical assistance to St. Louis area high performing CDC's. Now in its tenth year of operation, the program has made over $2.3 million in capacity building grants to fifteen St. Louis area CDC's. In turn, these organizations have successfully developed over 1,200 homes and apartments, representing $182 million of new capital investments in the St. Louis region.

The program selects organizations for funding based on their potential for organizational capacity building and the opportunity to use their increased capacity to successfully revitalize their neighborhood. All three of this year's grantees serve lead roles in revitalizing neighborhoods and helping to improve the lives of the residents they serve. The Old North St. Louis Restoration Group is leading the revitalization of Crown Village in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood on the City's near north side. Emerson Park Development Corporation operates a charter school and a Youthbuild program, and is leading the revitalization of the Emerson Park neighborhood in East St. Louis. DeSales Community Housing Corporation is a key player in the revitalization of the Tower Grove East and Fox Park neighborhoods on the City's south side.

The Collaborative Grant Program is a part of RHCDA's overall CDC Capacity Building and Collaborative Grant Program, which includes targeted grant making as well as individualized technical assistance and group training for a larger number of organizations. Assistance is available to local nonprofit community-based development organizations in the areas of organizational development, real estate development, strategic planning, and neighborhood planning.

The Collaborative Grant program is made possible through the generous support of local and national foundation and corporations. Since its inception, funders have included Bank of America, Citicorp, Commerce Bank, Enterprise Community Partners, Fannie Mae Foundation, First Bank, the Incarnate Word Foundation, Marshall and Ilsley Bank (Southwest Bank of St. Louis), May Department Stores Company and U.S. Bank.
